Brush Falcon Works build number 342, the very first Class 47 locomotive, was rolled out into public view amidst much publicity. In the British Railways fleet as D1500, and later in the British Rail fleet as 47401, No.342 saw almost 30 years of service and was finally withdrawn in June of 1992. It is fitting that this pioneer machine is now preserved, and will be around for many years to come.
