| | 02/74 | 47405 | | 08/79 | to GD | | | | 03/86 | This was the 6th Class 47 loco to be withdrawn, and became the first to be withdrawn for a reason other than being damaged 'beyond economical repair'. In 1986 BR decided upon a planned run-down of the class starting with the older 'Generators', which were considered to be 'non-standard' and costly to keep running. 47405 had suffered a number of failures and was finally moved from Gateshead TMD to Crewe Works for parts stripping and, ultimately - cutting-up.
